01

Introduction & scope

lixTranslator is a real-time translation service that transcribes, translates, and renders speech and text from one language to another. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how we protect it.

By creating an account or using the service, you accept the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the service.

lixTranslator is part of the brand family Creativlix · lixPresentr · Pagelix.

02

Information we collect

Depending on how you use the service, we may collect the following categories of data:

  • Account data: name, email, and password (hashed). For Google sign-in, the basic profile (name, email, avatar) that Google shares with us.
  • Audio you stream from your microphone or system audio during a session.
  • Transcripts: source and translated text segments, saved as session history.
  • Usage & metering data: audio minutes, session duration, timestamps, and approximate cost.
  • Billing data handled by Stripe (we do not store full card numbers).
  • Technical data: device/browser, IP, and cookies (locale, theme, and authentication/session cookies).
  • Optional uploads: glossary terms you create, and any session audio recordings (if recording is enabled), stored in Cloudflare R2.
03

Authentication & Google Sign-In

We use Neon Auth (powered by Better Auth) for accounts. Email/password sign-up requires email verification via a one-time code (OTP).

Google Sign-In (OAuth): when you sign in with Google, Google shares your email, name, and profile picture. We use this only to create and identify your account, and we request minimal scopes. You can review or revoke this access in your Google Account. We do not post to your Google accounts and do not read any Google data beyond sign-in.

04

How we use your information

We use your information to:

  • Provide real-time translation, play translated audio, and display live captions.
  • Save searchable transcripts as session history.
  • Meter usage for billing.
  • Improve reliability and quality, and prevent abuse.
  • Communicate service notices and comply with law.

We do not sell personal data, and we do not use your audio or transcripts to train our own models.

05

Third-party services & sub-processors

To operate the service, we rely on the following providers, each with a specific role:

  • Soniox — primary real-time speech-to-text, translation, and text-to-speech engine; receives your audio/text during a session.
  • Microsoft Azure (Speech + Translator) — speech recognition, translation, and synthesis for additional and African languages.
  • OpenAI — non-realtime text translation for the typed-text path.
  • Neon — managed Postgres database (accounts, transcripts, usage) and Neon Auth (Better Auth) identity.
  • Stripe — subscription billing and payment processing.
  • Cloudflare R2 — storage for optional session audio recordings.
  • Vercel — application hosting and delivery.
  • Google — OAuth sign-in.

These processors have their own privacy policies and may process data outside Canada.

06

The audio path & latency design

During a session, audio streams over a single low-latency hop between your browser and the translation engine using a short-lived credential — the provider’s real key never reaches your browser.

We don’t proxy or store raw audio on our servers, except for the optional recordings you choose to enable.

07

Data retention

Transcript retention depends on your tier:

  • Free — 24 hours
  • Starter — 30 days
  • Pro — 1 year

You can delete sessions at any time. Deleting your account removes associated data within a reasonable period. Recordings follow a retention purge.

08

Data location & EU residency

By default, your data is processed in our primary hosting region. The third-party providers above may process data in other regions, including outside Canada.

Pro-tier customers can enable an EU data-residency option to keep processing within the European Union.

09

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies, with no advertising trackers:

  • Locale — remembers your language preference (preference).
  • Theme — remembers light/dark mode (preference).
  • Session/auth — keeps you signed in and secures your session (essential).
10

Your rights & choices

You can access, correct, delete, and export your data (transcript export in .txt/.srt), and withdraw your consent.

For Canadian users, our posture is aligned with PIPEDA. EU and UK users have the rights provided under the GDPR.

To exercise these rights, email us at hello@lixtranslator.app.

11

Data security

We protect your data with encryption in transit, hashed passwords, short-lived engine credentials, and access controls.

No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

12

Children

The service is not directed to children under 16 (or the local minimum age). We do not knowingly collect their data. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us.

13

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you. Your continued use of the service after an update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
